Elenger has reserved more than half of Inkoo’s winter capacity

As a result of the winter capacity booking organized by the Finnish Inkoo LNG terminal, Elenger got three delivery slots out of six, which, together with the one booked already earlier, allows the company to bring a total of four LNG cargoes to Finland from December to April.

“Our goal is to bring one cargo every month to Finland during the winter period and thereby ensure stability and security for customers and the Finnish gas market. The interruption of the Balticconnector has brought new challenges, but the market is capable of solving this situation with the cooperation of the system operator, the LNG terminal and the gas importers,” said Margus Kaasik, head of Elenger group.

“The impact of the Balticconnector incident to the Baltic countries is significantly smaller compared to Finland – we can serve Baltic customers through the Klaipeda terminal in Lithuania and the underground gas storage in Incukalns in Latvia, where we have stored enough gas for the winter,” said Kaasik.

Elenger has more than tripled its LNG deliveries this year – instead of five cargoes last year, the company will bring a total of 18 cargoes to the region this year. One third of the imports to Finland and the Baltic region go through Elenger.

Previously, natural gas reached our region mainly via a pipeline from Russia but for almost a year and a half this direction has been closed and a full-scale turn to the west has taken place. Natural gas is now brought in liquefied form to the Inkoo terminals in Finland and Klaipeda in Lithuania, where it is regasified and fed into the grid. The LNG supplies imported by Elenger have certificates of origin, the gas comes mostly from the United States and Norway.

Operating in five markets – Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland – Elenger grew last year to become the largest private energy company with in Finland and the Baltic region. The group offers its customers natural gas in the form of pipeline gas, compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) and operates the largest gas network in Estonia and Latvia. Elenger group is actively engaged in international energy trade and develops a renewable energy portfolio in the form of solar energy and biomethane production and sales. In native market Estonia, Elenger is called Eesti Gaas.
